Spiritual Services Jackson Campus

Spirituality can be an important element in overall well-being and in dealing with illness or injury. Chaplains with the University of Mississippi Medical Center and the state's only academic medical school are trained to minister to all, regardless of denomination or religious tradition.

Interfaith chapels 

The interfaith chapel at University Hospital is a calming sanctuary for all seeking spiritual comfort. Located in the upper lobby off the main entrance, it is available 24 hours a day. A quiet worship room across from the chapel is always open.

The chapel, made possible by private donations, features a large piece of 16 glass panels inscribed with the scripture from Ecclesiastes 3:1, “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.” Colored stained glass windows, richly representing the four seasons, were created by Jackson artist Andy Young. The pulpit, altar/table, chair, and baptismal font were crafted from local woods by artist Fletcher Cox.

The interfaith chapel in the Kathy and Joe Sanderson Tower is open 24 hours a day. Located on Level G (ground floor) of Sanderson Tower, it is the closest chapel for pediatric patients, their families, and loved ones. The chaplain’s office located next door to the chapel is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For special times of formal prayer, faith groups can request to reserve the chapel from the director of pastoral services. 

In addition to the chapel, several floors in Sanderson Tower offer respite areas where patients and families can go for quiet, meditation, and prayer.
